Use your dental benefits before they reset
If your dental insurance runs on a calendar year, unused benefits usually don't carry over. Booking before December 31 helps you get the care you've already paid for.
What to know
Annual maximum
Most dental plans cap what they'll pay each plan year. Whatever you don't use typically doesn't roll over.
Deductible
If you've already met this year's deductible, care before the plan year ends may cost you less out of pocket than the same care next year.
Preventive visits
Many plans cover regular cleanings and exams at a high level. If you haven't had yours this year, it's a good time.
FSA and HSA dollars
Flexible spending account money is often use-it-or-lose-it by the end of the plan year, and both FSA and HSA funds can usually be used for dental care. Check your plan's rules.
