What to do if you chip or break a tooth

First steps at home, and when to call.

Rinse your mouth with warm water and save any pieces of the tooth. If there's bleeding, press gently with clean gauze. A cold compress on the outside of your cheek helps with swelling.

Call your dentist as soon as you can, even if it doesn't hurt. A small chip may only need smoothing or a filling, but a crack can let bacteria in and get worse over time.
