Root canal therapy
Root canal therapy saves a tooth whose inner pulp is infected or inflamed, relieving the pain and keeping your natural tooth in place.
When you might need one
Common signs include a severe or lingering toothache, pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn't go away, or swelling near a tooth. Sometimes there are no symptoms at all and the problem shows up on an X-ray.
What the treatment involves
The tooth is numbed, the infected pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Many teeth then need a crown to protect them.
Many people find a root canal feels much like getting a filling, and it relieves the pain that brought them in.
