After a crown

Caring for a temporary crown and your new permanent crown.

These are general instructions. If Dr. Di Lisio gave you different instructions for your visit, follow hers.

With a temporary crown

Chew on the other side when you can, and avoid sticky or hard foods like caramel, gum, and ice. When flossing, slide the floss out to the side instead of pulling it up, so the temporary stays put.

If the temporary comes off

Keep it, and call us. Don't leave the tooth uncovered longer than you have to.

After your permanent crown

Mild sensitivity and sore gums around the tooth are normal for a few days. Brush and floss it like your other teeth.

Your bite

If your bite feels high or uneven, call us for a quick adjustment.

Call us if

Your temporary crown comes off or breaks, your bite feels off, or you have pain or swelling that gets worse.

Call (314) 894-9700

If you have facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, a high fever, or uncontrolled bleeding, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
