After a root canal

Healing well and protecting the tooth until it's restored.

These are general instructions. If Dr. Di Lisio gave you different instructions for your visit, follow hers.

The first few days

The tooth and gums may be tender for a few days. Over-the-counter pain relievers usually help; follow the package directions or Dr. Di Lisio's instructions.

Protect the tooth

Until the tooth has its final filling or crown, avoid chewing hard foods on that side. The tooth is more fragile until it's fully restored.

Brushing and flossing

Keep brushing and flossing normally, gently around the treated tooth.

Finish the treatment

If you need a crown, keep that appointment. It protects the tooth for the long term.
